I went in for All The Best expecting another Golmaal or Golmaal Returns. I wanted to just laugh and have a good time. I did laugh lots of times, even though not as much as the Golmaal series. There is no story whatsoever and the same plot has been used in many others (Kaadhala Kaadhala being one, which was howlarious), but still the movie is not that bad too. While watching Golmaal or Golmaal Returns, you didnt have time to think how stupid those movies actually were. There were amazing gags playing out continuously, which would throw you into fits of laughter scene after scene. In this movie, they have purposefully avoided double meaning jokes and in the process, have included lots of PJs. But even those PJs make you laugh since they are delivered well.

The story (if that is what it can be called) is about two friends, Veer (Fardeen Khan) and Prem Chopra (Ajay Devgn). Veer has a girlfriend Vidya (Mugdha Godse) and Prem is married to Jhanvi (Bipasha Basu). Veer has a brother Dharam (Sanjay Dutt) who stays abroad. He lands in their house one day and mistakes Jhanvi to be Vidya, Veer's girlfriend, and a lot of  confusion follows.

Ajay Devgn has certainly improved in his comic timing. He is known to be a serious actor, but he has been trying to prove that he can do comedy also, through movies like Masti, Golmaal, Golmaal Returns, etc. He is very nice in the movie and does deliver some good jokes. You can see glimpses of the amazing actor in him in the scene where he finds that Bipasha is pregnant. Despite being the producer, he is at the receiving end of almost all the jokes in the movie. Sanjay Dutt was having lots of fun acting in the movie. He has done very well. Though he looks overweight in many scenes, he does his trademark slow motion walk so well, that it is so difficult to stay without whistling or clapping. His scenes with Ajay are the highlight of this movie. After looking totally disinterested in a lot of other movies, it is clear that Sanju Baba has had loads of fun working for this one. Fardeen repeats his almost decent acting style from No Entry. The only two films I liked of his are No Entry and this one. He also has to lose lots of weight. Bipasha is okay though she has nothing much to do. You dont really see much of Mugdha Godse, except for the songs. Johnny Lever is fantastic. Watch out for him towards the climax, he is SO good. Sanjay Mishra, though irritating in the beginning, gets better as the movie proceeds. His 'Just Chill' had the audience in splits towards the end. The other secondary characters also do decent jobs and add to the confusion.

Music is loud. Songs are not all that impressive. And Ajay, Fardeen and Sanjay certainly dont look like rockstars. Sanjay Dutt, the original rockstar of Hindi Cinema looks jaded in the songs of this movie. Background score was good though. The funny situations were enhanced with the use of clever background score. Cinematographer Dudley has shot the film very colorfully. Actually, the movie is exploding with colours. The actors wear almost all sorts of colour combinations. And so much of the costumes are based on flowers. You see flowers and colour throughout the movie. The stunts werent that great, but the car chase scene was funny. Screenplay and dialogues were actually very good as it managed to hold the attention of the audience for around 2.5 hours and kept them laughing throughout, which is not an easy task.

This movie does not deliver non-stop laughter like the director's earlier comedy movies (except Sunday). Yet it has loads of funny moments, especially after Sanjay Dutt comes into the picture. Kids were loving the movie actually. There are almost no double meaning dialogues, which is a very good thing. Usually, such movies always resort to toilet humour in many of the gags. But this time, the director has managed to keep it clean. I could hear kids laughing very loudly inside the theatre. It is a timepass movie which you can go for and laugh for 2 hours, without taking the trouble of concentrating on logic and all. It has all the chances to be successful, because of the festive week and the fact that it is a mindless comedy which can be watched by the entire family. By the way, I'm still wondering why Ajay Devgan dropped the 'a' from Devgan!! If it is for numerological reasons, he can be happy now, because All The Best is clearly the best among the Diwali releases.

Rating - 3.5/5 (I have changed my rating and have re-edited the post after watching it second time. I liked it even more the second time)

  1. Even if Rohit-Ajay team comes up with a blockbuster movie......I am going to skip it as I really had a tough time watching Golmaal 1 on big screen and Returns on DVD...

I agree both these movies had its funny moments but wasnt it just too much forced comedy ? Aren't we tired with these kind of comedies ?
