This movie has been in news from the time it was announced. Any Kamal Haasan movie would have such importance. What if, another legend also comes into the project?? Mohanlal and Kamal Haasan come together for the first time in this film, which makes it extra-special. And one more special fact is that Kamal's daughter Shruti Haasan is making her debut as a music composer through this movie. It is not exactly a musical movie as the movie is one without songs. But the album has been composed keeping in mind the theme of the movie, which gives a strong message against terrorism. The movie, as we all know, is a remake of the Hindi film, 'A Wednesday'. Its the first time that a lady composer is taking up such a big project in Tamil cinema. That too a young girl like Shruti. And since, she is Kamal Haasan's daughter, expectations are huge.

The title track, 'Unnaipol Oruvan', starts with a synthetic sound and then goes into the famous shloka from the Bhagvat Gita, with a heavy rock accompaniment. This song, written by Kamal Haasan, is the theme song of the movie and is most likely to be played during the end credits after the movie reaches its finale. There is not much lyrics. The Bhagvat Gita verses are followed by, 'Unnaipol,, Ennaipol,, Nammaipol,, Oruvan.. Oruvan'. Simple, but powerful. Then there are voices of various people, each of them saying, 'I am the new face of terror'. The song rightly encapsulates the whole theme of the movie, about the common man taking his own steps against terrorism. It would be a brilliant ending to the movie if this song is played and visuals of different people saying, 'I am the new face of terror' come on sceen. The song has utilized the drums and guitar brilliantly and delivers a very appealing theme song. Shruti also does some high pitched vocals, which is again wonderful. A brilliant start. Very impressive. Kamal's other daughter Akshara and Gauthami's daughter Subba Lakshmi also join the group of people saying the lines 'I am the new face of terror'. The addition of some children's vocals in the song further enhances it. The other people in the credits for vocals are Mira, Tara, Satish, Leo, Krishnan, Swaminathan, Aiden and Bala. Brilliant track. (4.5/5)

The next track is 'Nilai Varuma' by Bombay Jayashree and Kamal Haasan. We get to hear dad singing in daughter's voice now. The song begins in Bombay Jayashree's beautiful husky voice and later on Kamal joins in with his powerful voice. The guitar interludes deserve special mention. The song basically poses a question, when would there be an end to this terrorism and communal violence. This song again has a heavy rock backing (Not surprising, knowing Shruti's rock background), but it is very effective. The carnatic swaras towards the end make a great impact. Again, a brilliant track, much more impressive (to me) than the first one. (4.8/5)

Next track is 'Vaanam Ellai Illai ' which is a rap number by Blaaze and Shruti Haasan. This song is the one which is used as the promotional video of the movie. Shruti impresses with the composition and vocals yet again. Blaaze rocks as usual. The part where he goes 'Tamil Nadu hear the sound' with some awesome beats is just brilliant. Shruti's vocals go from rock to carnatic with ease. The lyrics by Blaaze is also in sync with the theme of the movie. A very catchy number, sure to top the charts. (4/5)

Next up is 'Allah Jaane Remix' by Shruti Haasan. I usually dont listen to remix songs. But wanted to give it a shot. Its not bad. But the stock beats used are not very appealing. The beats sound like a disco number but the lyrics have much more depth. And since, there is an actual number coming up next with the same lyrics, I would prefer that to this one. Here also, Shruti's unique voice works. An average number. (3/5)

The last and final song has the man himself, Mr. Kamal Haasan singing his daughter's composition yet again. The song is 'Allah Jaane' written by Manushyaputhran. Kamal sings with a strong nasal voice, to give it the sound of an Islamic chant. Most probably the theme for Kamal's character in the movie, it deals with the troubles a man faces because of terrorism. Its full of grief and sadness. A situational number, with minimum instrumentals. Should work very well in the movie. Kamal has already proved that he is an amazing singer and because of his acting experience, he is able to give a lot of 'feel' to the songs he sings. Shruti has made use of all this very well. This song is the pick of the lot. It may not be played everywhere. But this track is very well composed and sung and is very much apt for the movie. (4.5/5)

Kamal didnt make a wrong decision by choosing his daughter as the music composer for this huge project. Shruti makes a huge impression through her debut as a composer (though her acting debut wasnt half as interesting as this). Her rock influence is very evident and she has merged it with a lot of Carnatic music as well and has made a wonderful album. As I said in the title, Pulikku piranthathu poonai aavuma?? ;) I just cant wait to watch the movie since it has both my all time favorite actors Mohanlal and Kamal Haasan together. The real challenge for Shruti, would be to compose the background score for the movie. Since, the movie heavily relies on editing and background score to create tense situations, its a brilliant opportunity for her. She would definitely do well in that too. The music video by Shruti Haasan and Blaaze is already out and is very impressive. Brilliant stuff, this is. :)

Rating - 4/5
